Not sure what to say?

Was so sorry to hear about Johns` passing. He will be missed.
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family from Dick & Jane
Fournier.

I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said very eloquently by the other folks here. My parents met the Ambroses sometime shortly after I was born (I'm 46). Needless to say the Ambrose's have been dear friends of our family basically my whole life. They were at every party and get together my parents had, and I can honestly say I think John Ambrose might be the most self effacing, warm, and genuinely sincere person I've ever known. " Gentlemanly charm" seems to be a phrase...

Words cannot describe the kindness and warmth that John shared with his students. Professor Ambrose was my self-appointed advisor at Bowdoin. His wit, charm and intellect was inspirational to me and my classmates. I am forever grateful for his influence as a student, and as a young man.

Cheery Beery!

I was a student at Roxbury Latin School in 1956 when Mr. Ambrose came to teach Latin at the School. He was so youthful and cheerful that we all became big fans--he made Latin fun! Here's my one special memory. Mr. Ambrose married while we were still at RLS, and in the Jack Kerouac mode then considered cool, fellow student Bill Beer got the use of his family's car, and we drove up to New Hampshire (near Lake Winnepesaukee (spelling.???) and showed up at the wedding. Of course we hadn't been...

Professor Ambrose has been a role model to many of us throughout the years. He will be missed.

John was one amazing professor and I remember him fondly. He was so supportive, understanding and nuturing during my Bowdoin years . I spoke to him about a year ago and he was his old friendly self. I will miss him greatly but he gave me a lasting gift of appreciating the classics.

May your Fond & Loving Memories help to ease your sorrow during this difficult time. (John 5:25-29; Lu 23:43 & Ps 37:9-11,29)

I am so sorry to hear of Professor Ambrose's passing. John was my favorite professor at Bowdoin and I loved the independent study I did with him my senior year, the two of us in his office translating Greek and just talking. I still have the letter he sent me when, years later, I asked him for some help in planning a trip to Greece (and give copies of it to everyone I know who is traveling there). That he took the time to send me a 3 page letter about where to go, stay and eat, is a...

A true gentleman. He was such a great father. Out of all my friends parents, he was always my favorite.
