John left an indelible mark on many of us, including myself. Every time I look at the house next door I think of it as Johns house and recall memories of his wit, intelligence, and generosity. John could have been born more then a century earlier, or later - and he would have fit in and be a survivor. He could adapt, and delighted in figuring out a way to solve a problem with a gadget, a repair, or innovative approach. He was a man who loved his friends - and we sure loved him back.

John was, without a doubt, the smartest man I have ever known. I consider myself to be very fortunate to have been part of his family. I will always cherish the times we shared from our first Christmas at his house in Princeton, MA to the times we spent beachcoombing and catching crabs behind his house in Matunuck Beach, RI. John was always there for me supporting and encouraging. He and his wife, Jan were there when I graduated from high school and when I graduated from Bowdoin. I...

John will be sadly missed as he was liked by everyone! For his stories, helping people and giving great advice... So well rounded in so many things.. Was a very smart man.. Was so glad to have known him and will always be remembered.. RIP John my friend..

John was an incredible man. Kind, generous, smart. He loved people, and found new friends wherever he went. He was like a powerful magnet, drawing diverse new friends from unlikely places. These people enriched John's life, and he certainly enriched their lives, too! As an example, The Taste Of Maine restaurant was one of John's favorite summertime destinations, and I'm betting the staff will note his absence and miss his bonhomie. John was a very dear friend from Matunuck Rhode Island I'm glad I had the privilege along with my wife to have known John ,now he is back with Jean and Jan god bless my friend Jay and Linda beck
