Pittsburg Funeral Chapel - Pittsburg Obituary

John R. Anello, age 67, passed away suddenly on November 15, 2020 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Pittsburg. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1971; where he excelled in baseball. He began teaching at St. Peter Martyr School in 1977. During his time at St. Peter Martyr, he was a teacher, boys’ basketball coach and athletic director. He would remain there until his retirement in 2018. He was well loved by the students, faculty and  parents. He was an avid sports fan, participated in local softball and bocce ball leagues. John’s real joy was fishing and hanging out on his boat with a cool one. He also enjoyed trips to Reno-Tahoe and to the local racetrack. John was competitive, not to say he was a poor sport, but he did not like to lose. He used to say “It doesn't matter if we win or lose as long as we win!"

He was a member of the Pittsburg Elks Lodge Local #1474 and was a self-proclaimed Beatles fanatic.

John was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Vinnie Anello. He is survived by his older brother Frank and sister-in-law Donna Anello and younger brother and best friend Sam Anello.  Also, by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, godchildren and lifelong friends. He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him.

John now joins his Heavenly Father in Heaven, where there are no losers, only winners.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no celebration of life services held at this time. In memory of John, please send contributions to St. Peter Martyr School 425 W. 4th Street, Pittsburg, Ca 94565.

SPM Mr Anello 6th Grade Class

I just found out about Mr Anello’s passing and while I hadn’t seen him in some time, it is incredibly sad to lose such a great man. I remember the Beatle’s records, basketball teams, baseball teams, and history lessons like it was yesterdayhe was always a friend to us all and we had no idea how lucky we were.

I distinctly remember the “sucker contests” when in the 4th gradeonce a week he’d come into class with exotic math equationsyou won that week, you won the suckerI tell my...

My dear cousin. You had a heart of gold. Until we meet again.

Our sincere condolences to the family and many dear friends of John Anello. Mr. Anello was a Pittsburg Community treasure. He taught and coached each of our 8 children at St. Peter Martyr School in our 25 years there. With Joe and Rocco, John was one of the “Three Tenors” of SPM, and his song will ring in our hearts forever.

Exquisite Tribute Standing Spray

YESTERDAY, I was here enjoying life
with my family and friends, sometimes
putting in a HARD DAY'S NIGHT,
at SPM, bocce with my buds,
fishing on the YELLOW SUBMARINE (my boat)
or listening to the BEATLES (my favorite).
So PLEASE PLEASE ME, don't be sad for I am
with MOTHER MARY, and she will
take good care of me.
So let's COME TOGETHER, and say Thanks,
for the memories to our friend and teacher.
