Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

John G. Anguiano went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at age 81. He passed while attending mass at San Fernando Cathedral, surrounded by his family.

John, affectionately known as Kino, is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria Luisa; sibling, Rosalynda Rodriguez (Carlos); children, Maricruz Gray (Dallas), Laura Carrizales (Matthew); Sonia Anguiano (Stefan Shambora); his beloved grandchild, Alejandro Matt Carrizales, and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Leonardo G. and Manuela R. and brothers, baby John, Leonard, Robert and George Anguiano.

Born in San Antonio, he began his Catholic education at Christ the King Catholic School. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and later earned his BBA in accounting from St. Mary’s University.

John had many interesting jobs over the course of his career, where he relocated his family to several cities, including Los Angeles, Washington DC, New Orleans, and Las Cruces.

Working as a river barge captain at Casa Rio in college, John had the opportunity to share his many stories and knowledge of the history of San Antonio. He also worked at HEB and often boasted he was the fastest cashier and best bagger.

Early in his career, he was employed with Maldonado Accounting and later served as an internal auditor at Frost Bank. In the mid-1970s, at the National Economic Development Association, he was a financial analyst and was later promoted to executive Vice President. He helped many small businesses acquire financial loans and get their start with the Small Business Administration - Disaster Division. John spent the majority of his career as a McDonald’s Franchisee and helped with fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House. After McDonald’s, he ventured into the dry-cleaning business before retiring.

His retirement was all about his grandson. Serving as the afterschool pickup and care, he helped with homework and attended all the games and school programs. He was also known to take impromptu road trips with his wife. He always had a stack of tour guides and maps on his side table, planning the next family trip or helping his friends plan theirs.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who always put his family and faith first. He was part of the St. Paul Catholic Church community as well as a member of the Brigidine Association. Always with a book or newspaper in hand, John was an avid reader and enjoyed music, photography, religious studies, geography, social events, and traveling.

He was our foundation, a constant support to family and friends. He will forever be loved and immensely missed, until we see each other again with our heavenly Father.

Not sure what to say?

Most of all a Great Buddy You could count on. He, Simon Castillo, and Adaulto Duron, CPA, fought for while with NEDA for Funding for Franchises and Minority business. Their efforts helped Open Doors if Today. Small and Minority businesses Don't Know How and Who helped fdo it .

Mr. A (John) was my first Boss when I move to San Antonio. I start working at McDonald's in Sept. 1983. He pushes me to be better and become the GM of several MCD, and I finally retried 2 years ago. The Anguiano became my Family outside of MCD. John you will be missed by everyone that knew you. Rest In Peace and my Condolences To The Family.
