John was my roommate at Syracuse University, the best man at my wedding, and we have been friends since the ninth grade. He had a great quiet, intelligent sense of humor and was respected by all who knew him. His loss comes much too soon, and we shall all miss him.

John was a great and loyal friend. He was a terrific storyteller and a font of interesting information. His many years of covering politics for the newspaper gave him lots of behind the scenes stories. Whenever he came over for dinner, we settled in to listen to a tale or two.
Our friendship with John stretched back for more than 50 years. He felt like one of the family. He will be sorely missed.

He did not seek to set the world on fire, but to bring an ember of truth into the reporting of news, careful always to stick to facts and to be sure of them before putting them into print. Whether it was as national politics reporter on the campaign trail, or beat reporter in the town halls of WMass, he never thought himself more important than the people and events he covered, and never sought accolades for his achievements. John was an easy going,soft spoken gentleman with a keen wit and a great smile. He will be missed by all who knew Him.
