Sister Asplund and Family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of President Aspulund. I will be eternally grateful to him and to Sister Asplund for their kindness, and the loving manner in which they presided over the Finnish Mission. In a new land, with a new language, it was rather intimidating at first, but it was so obvious the great love the Asplunds had for Finland, its people, and the missionaries, that the transition to missionary life was much easier. Dear Sister Asplund,

Our condolences. President Asplund was more than a mission president to me. He was a true friend. I liked his attitude toward the Finnish language and toward the missionaries. He explicitely adored his wife. He was a deep and a clear thinker, and an expressive communicator in both English and Finnish. I am especially happy to have spent many hours travelling around the mission and discussing with him.

I send my condolences. I remember well all the memories on my mission in finland with President Asplund and Pat Asplund. May the Lord be with you at this time.

Though he was my mission president for only a few months, he kept me as one of his missionaries and shared his thoughts on life and his testimony of Christs role in our lives. I have kept his letters to his friends and continue to use his wisdom as a guide.

It was a pleasure to serve in the Finnish mission while President Asplund was the mission president. My deepest sympathy at his passing to all the family.
