John A. Baca June 25, 1945 ~ May 20, 2011 A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of John A. Baca, 65, of Somerville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somerville with Fr. Nock Russell acting as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mexican Cemetery in Somerville. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Somerville. Mr. Baca died Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Care Center in Brenham. John was born June 25, 1945, in El Rito, New Mexico, the son of Jesus and Magdelina Miera Baca. He graduated from high school and went on to College in New York, at a Monastery in Wisconsin, Central America and in Mexico. He was married to Cecilia Negrete in 1979 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somerville. John worked as a supervisor for a wire rack manufacturing company. Family members described John as a person who loved people and animals, especially his cattle. He did oil painting and always had a garden. He and Cecilia spent many hours fishing together. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roy Baca, an infant brother, an infant sister, and another sister, Estfanita Rascon. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Baca of Somerville; his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Jessica Baca of Somerville; a brother and sister-in-law, Eduardo and Esther Baca of Somerville; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Zorida and Willie Martinez of Espanola, New Mexico, Esperanza and Nelson Gonzales of El Rito, New Mexico, Socorro and Edgar Hunt of Silt, Colorado and Bertha and Roger Arnold of Stowe, Ohio; his brother-in-law, Dan Rascon of Albuquerque, New Mexico along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Family members have requested that memorials in John's name be made to the American Liver Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
