Major John Barberi receives the Navy Commendation Medal

We Miss you, Uncle John. You were such an inspiration to us. Your memories live on. Love your niece Annette and nephew, Jerry.

My "Great" Uncle John came in my life when I was a teenager. He was my Grandmothers younger brother (she was the oldest of 12). He found me in Hawaii when I was 16. Even though he wasn't there for long, he made such an impression on me. In some ways I think he helped save me. He made me want to be like him and to live a different life than I was living. He was so smart and kind. I guess you never know the difference you can make on someone.

John,Sr was a remarkable man in so many ways. He did so much for so many people. He will be missed. Rest in peace. See you in heaven!!

John was also active with the Bellingham Central Lions club for a time. That was how I got to know him. I always enjoyed time spent on various volunteer activities with John and loved hearing about his varied careers. My most sincere condolences to his family.
