On October 18, 1968, John V. Barker, III, the son of Georgiana and John V. Barker, Jr., was born in Tallahassee, Fla.
Understanding the need to have fellowship with God, John accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.
John attended the public schools in Monticello; he graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1987. After graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army. Later in life, he became a home improvement paint specialist. He always said, "Painting is my calling; I was meant to paint." John was musically inclined and became a singer in the Smiling Island Band. John loved seafood, music, playing the bass guitar and painting.
On Thursday, June 6, 2024, John took a flight and transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal home. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his mother, Reverend Georgiana Barker; sons, Javonte, Jaylen and Tyjon Barker; two daughters, Shakima Mills and Mariah Barker; grandchildren, Kennedy, Kendal, Jace and Bryce; two sisters, Rosetta Barker and Simone Williams; a brother, Angelo (Alicia) Barker; a special friend, Travonda Anderson; his fur baby, May'zEve; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend John V. Barker, Jr.; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandparents.
The funeral service for John V. Barker, III will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, at Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (690 Cypress St.) Monticello, Fla. Professional services are entrusted to GRACE Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., (850) 926-4407.

To Ms. Georgianna, Rosetta, and Angelo and Simone you have my deepest sympathy. Thank God John doesn’t have to suffer no more on this earth. He has gone to have his eternal rest now pain free. Now he awaits for all his family arrival to join him in peaceful rest some day. May God console and heal his children and your hearts from the void of missing him. May the blessings of God be with you all.

To the family, just know that God will give you continued strength during this difficult time.
John (my spiritual brother), I will miss your smile, our talks, and how you helped with the Glory Gospel Choir. You will be truly missed.
