BARROWS, John William Sr., 92, of Emporia, passed away on November 1, 2012. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Mitchell Barrows; his sister, Wanda Rose; and brother, Robert Barrows. He is survived by his wife, Jane Rae Barrows; sons, John "Jay" William Barrows Jr. (Cindy) of Richmond and James "J.C." Christopher Barrows (Beverly) of Richmond; daughters, Linda Barrows Simpson (Jim) of Mill Valley, California and Anne Barrows Woodruff (Woody) of Emporia; stepdaughter, Misty Willard (Dean) of Mooresville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, Masons, American Society of Agricultural Engineers and a current member of the Planning and Zoning Board for the City of Emporia. He was also a Marine Corps veteran and proudly served in World War II. John designed farm equipment for International Harvester, Franklin Equipment Company and Benthall Manufacturing and retired from the City of Emporia. A visitation will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday at Echols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. at Echols Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in Spring United Methodist Church Cemetery, Skippers, Virginia.
