Not sure what to say?

I remember John in the small ways, the things he would say. One of my favorites when visiting Chez Barton for an impressive dinner was If you leave here hungry, its your own damn fault! He was a wonderful, wise, witty friend.

Jane, We were so sorry to learn of the death of your beloved husband, John. We always enjoyed reading his articles and enjoyed his obituary as we learned more about John. My husband Jim is a fly fisherman also. Wanted to write you, but not sure if you still live at 4120 Woodland Drive. Our prayers and blessings are with you. xxxooo Jim and Charlotte Haller Portz

Thank you all for your lovely remembrances of John. I do hope he is landing a giant rainbow in the greatest trout stream in the universe right now, Winston bounding through the water upstream.
Jane

Jane, we are so sorry to hear of your husband's death. You all are in our prayers. Joan Beckham Whitmore/John K. Whitmore, Mary Ann (Holland) Chapman's neighbors.

I first met John when I was a dispatcher at the Sheriff's Dept and he was with the Ypsi Press. He would come in at 5 AM to look at reports and we soon discovered that we were both fly fishermen. From that point on I think we spent as much time talking fishing as we did police work.

Some years later when I was a new Sergeant I was called to Sheriff Minick's office to explain why I called a guy involved in a 20 minute chase all over Ypsi a "clown". The Sheriff didn't think one...

John, I feel incredibly privileged to have known you, albeit for only a few years. Throughout your illness you were the most courageous optimistic person I have ever witnessed. You will always be a shining example to me,and I will never forget you. May you rest in the peace that you truly deserve.

Because of John's charm, wit and larger-than-life personality it's easy to forget that he was a first rate reporter and an elegant writer. He was one of the very best journalists I ever knew.

John was well liked by the Ypsilanti Police dept, He came to retirements at our Department over the years and we enjoyed his company..
He always had his facts right on reporting and was respected for his work at the A.A News by our police Officers.
I will never A know Nicer guy than John Barton.

JB:

I miss your wit, the glint in your eye, your devilish grin, your very hunger for life and knowledge.

I miss the "CLONG" you gave any reporter who dared try to equal you only, inevitably, to fail, because you could not be equaled; in your love of life, your work and, always most important, Jane.

I miss the pure, unrestrained joy you took in everything you did.

Love you forever, Big Man.
