Not sure what to say?

Just reflecting today on Mark and his wonderful legacy. May all find comfort in great memories and the lasting impact of his vision for service to others.

I'm so saddened to hear about Mark's passing. I haven't seen Mark for several years, and I was unaware of his illness. It sounds like he spent his last days like he spent his life, caring about others. I worked with Mark most closely when he was in the Provost's Office. He pulled me into the planning for the, then new, College Fellows Program. Mark was an innovative, big picture thinker. His generosity and kindness made him a great colleague to work with. I'm glad I got to know him. He was a...

Your husband/father's presence in your life was a true blessing. His memory will forever live on in your heart, and in the cherished moments you shared.

Our hearts are grieving for the loss of Mark. He was a caring, fun and thoughtful man who loved his family dearly. He leaves a memorable legacy, yet will certainly be missed.

As a faculty member next door to Mark at Samford for a few years, I was continually impressed with his good humor, amazing ability to connect different ideas, and passion for helping connect students with good colleges. He also was so encouraging of my ideas and always willing to collaborate on projects, and a really sincere person as well as a true intellectual. I miss him, and hope you feel the warmth of being accompanied by many people who remember Mark fondly.

The loss of such an inspirational man is felt deep within me. There was no way to be within the same space with him, and not feel enlightened by him. His words of wisdom will guide my path forward. Mark has left an indelible mark on my heart. He has changed me, and the lives of my family beyond what I am able to articulate.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Bateman family. Sorry for your loss. May the memories shared help you cope through this difficult time

I will always remember Mark's quick wit, unique humor, vigor for life, and love of people. I'll see you one day soon cousin.

What a beautiful life Mark led! I remember him saying how important it is to love our neighbors as he set about loving neighbors. May the love and peace of God which passes all understanding wrap around all Mark's family.
