John D. Bendokas, age 66, of Brick Township and Islamorada, FL died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. John was born in Newark and grew up in West Orange, NJ. He was an alumnus of St. Benedict's Prep in Newark. John lived in Brick for the past 37 years. John was a financial Consultant for over 30 years currently working for Wells Fargo Bank in Toms River. John served his local communities, devoting 9 years on the Brick Board of Education, as well as other local services in both Ocean County and Islamorada, FL. John was an avid sports fisherman, and shared this love with his family and friends. He was a member of San Padre's Catholic Church in FL.
John shared no greater love than for his family. Surviving is his wife, Patricia Leahy Bendokas; his son, Edward and his fiancee, Cindi Lindstrom of Brick; his daughter, Sandra Bendokas and her husband, Nicholas Cittadino of Brick. Also surviving are his 2 sisters, Diane, and Mary Elizabeth. John also leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Tessa and John.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy. 88, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, 11:00am in Newark at St. Mary's Church At Newark Abbey, 528 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St Benedict's Prep School, 520 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark, NJ.

A week before Thanksgiving I was driving through Islamorada and was filled with memories of seeing Mr B and Sandy for the first time. They were huddled around a pay phone for several minutes which gave me the nerve to walk up to meet 1 of Mr B's most prized possessions, Sandy. I would later learn the call was back to Mom checking in before bed. My favorite memory of Mr B is the story of how he met his wife. Deepest condolences to the family. May the God of all comfort be with you. Thinking about some of the words in Psalm 90 verse 10, regarding age, it speaks about "special mightiness" for reaching 80 years of age. Your love one must have really had special mightiness having reached beyond that. It was a blessing for your family.
