Not sure what to say?

There was no more special place than the early years of Rio Americano...I can only describe it as family and home.....I followed in my mother's footsteps as office staff when Rio opened and then later in 1978 I became a special education teacher along side Joseph Kine.....John was part of this special family....Kine, Mensch, Kreutzer and others....Incredible men who have left a legacy of love and guidance for hundreds of former students. John will always be remembered for his wisdom, wit,...

Mr. Berger was among Rio Americano's best and most beloved teachers. He was more into educating than being supervisorial, which I appreciated. When I became a college professor, I borrowed some of his teaching style. He also taught me how to be a more comprehensive reader. Thank you sir. May your relatives and friends understand how much of an impact you made on so many of us.

I am just now learning of the loss of John. He was a gentleman and had a lifelong love of learning. We had occasion to see each other every May in Arkansas and I enjoyed our daily interaction during his visits. I learned a lot from him, and found him to be kind, gracious and a true friend. Blessings to Barb and the family as you grieve.

John Berger, and family were a big part of my life . They were close family friends and my sisters "godparents". He and my Dad were close friends until my father´s death. He will be missed !

John Berger was one of my favorite teachers at Rio Americano High School. He will be missed.

I remember how he loved Shakespeare. We even had a birthday celebration for Shakespeare during class. He was a wonderful teacher and although I had many great teachers at Rio, I remember him clearly. I had him for Freshman English in 1964. Rest in peace. Lanette Franklin Class of '67

Mr Berger was my Freshman English teacher in 1966 at Rio Americano. I also got to babysit for his three darling children, as we lived in the same neighborhood. Mr Berger had a gentle nature towards all of us, and we were treated with dignity always. He had such a great smile. I valued his opinion and always enjoyed going to class. Over the last several years I found out that he still lived in the Sacramento area and I was able to communicate through letters. It was a joy for me to...

I rank Mr. Berger as my finest teacher at Rio Americano H.S. back in the early 1970's. I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to personally thank him at my 50th Class Reunion last year. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

How fortunate am I to have called John Berger a friend! His wit, wisdom, genuine caring, notes, love, brilliance are such a small part of who he was. Love you, John. Thank you for walking across my life. Much love to dear Barbara, Rose, Joe,Kate and families . Pam Peacock
