Don't remember how our paths crossed at Duke but I'm glad they did. Our common ground was our faith. Me a future pastor in the Lutheran Church and John a born again Baptist we talked a lot about what we believed ...he even came to worship at my Lutheran church near East campus. When we would see each other between classes we would yell across the quad Hey John how's it goin???? What a smile he had for anyone who needed one...glad our paths crossed..I know they will again...can't wait...Peace...

Dear Lauren and family,
John was such a strong soldier, in the Fight for the Unborn. His efforts will not, and have not gone unnoticed. May his soul rest in the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He will be very missed. We are so sorry for your loss. We were blessed to know such a kind, intelligent, and witty man. Only person around that had the right to be both a Duke and UK fan. Sending prayers and love to Lauren and family. -Hand Therapy Plus Total Body Rehab staff

So sorry for your loss. I always looked up to John even though we were on opposite sides of the table for union negotiating. Again sorry.

My growth in grace was catapulted during that time and I cannot overestimate the impact which that had upon me and may family. Personal friendship - John would often...

Dr Bickel and family, our prayers are with you. John was a blessing to all in both his personal and professional life. From our high school days, personal legal work and his corporate legal assistance, he was special. He will be missed by all.
