Not sure what to say?

I met John and Jan about 20 years ago and have cherished their relationship and friendship ever since. I could always count on John to give me the latest fishing report and of course a few pointers on fly fishing. I will never forget when he told me he was diagnosed and how it hit him but waited to tell Jan until she returned from Europe so she could still enjoy the rest of her trip. He truly was a great man blessed with a wonderful family, an amazing soulmate, and some of the best friends a...

From the moment we met John, we knew he was a special person. On that first tour of Italy, John and Jan brought us into the fold instantly, and we have such great memories of John from that point on. We are thinking today about his warmth, compassion, sense of humor, and that great laugh. He was always smiling. We knew he was a stellar human being, but this obituary told us even more wonderful things about him. We are so sorry to miss the service but are thinking of Jan and all his loved ones...

John was the consummate leader. He was articulate, steady and steered the Woodland School District in a direction that brought tremendous improvement in instruction, facilities and community engagement. John left a legacy of leadership that inspired vision and instilled passion. I will always be grateful for the support and encouragement he provided in recognizing the importance of music education. He was a great superintendent but most importantly he was a wonderful person. Jan, my heart...

Dean and I already miss you so much. We´re glad we got to see you recently. We´ve had so many great times with you two. My condolences and hugs to Jan and your family.

I cherish the memories I have with John. We shared golf, fly fishing, beer, wine and many jokes. John, you´re the toughest guy I know. Taken too soon. Miss you pal.

Earth & Sky Memorial

Sorry to hear of John's passing. My condolences to his family. I was a childhood friend from Hoquiam. John and his family lived across the street from my grandma Herrington and she babysat John and Andy from time to time. Well, when they came down with the chicken pox, my grandma marched me across the street to spend the day with the brothers. Her intent was that we all share the chicken pox, and that's exactly what happened. RIP John From Marti (Herrington) Ashcraft

The memorial service for John will be at First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 pm on October 1, 2022.
