Not sure what to say?

John was a serial entrepreneur, always thinking of how to make things better. As Louis Pasteur said in 1854, "In the fields of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind." John's mind was always prepared. We became friends 15-20 years ago because we both practice in New England, and he was one of the most generous and real people I've known. Now he is looking down at his "heaven on earth" in Putney from heaven itself. RIP my friend.

John Bookwalter was a classmate of mine at HMS. His lab position was next to mine. He was quiet, introspective and his brilliance was obvious to us all. He will be greatly missed.

I have known John Bookwalter since 1964 when he and I shared the same Harvard surgical rotation at the Boston City Hospital, he an intern and I, a fourth year medical student. Working with and learning from him every other night and every other weekend during those two wonderful months confirmed my decision, like his, to become a general surgeon. When I joined Brattleboro Surgical Associates in 1974 John was well on his way to becoming one of the most unforgettable characters I would ever...

He was a nice neighbor-kind and caring . He will be missed. Sorry for your loss.

I´ve known John for 40+ years through our association at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was a very enthusiastic, enjoyable, and talented man. My condolences to Marilyn and family.

My sympathy to Dr. Bookwalters family on his passing, I truly admired him, he was a smart, gracious and humble man...I had many interactions with him over the years working for Drs. Lewis & Albright and later for his good friend Joe Famolare.

I had the pleasure to have worked with him at BMH years ago

Offering our deepest condolences during this time.
