John Marshall Breckinridge John Marshall Breckinridge, known as Jack, to his many friends, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home in Nellysford, Virginia. Born and raised in New Orleans, Lousiana, Jack attended Country Day School, New Orleans Academy and graduated from Loyola School of Dentistry in 1966. He was a member of Beggars Fraternity and Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. He practiced dentistry for over thirty-five years and was very involved in the New Orleans community. He was an active member of several carnival organizations and loved Mardi Gras. Even after moving to Nellysford, he returned annually to partake in the festivities. A member of the New Orleans Country Club, Jack was recognizable to all with his distinctive handlebar mustache, and played golf frequently with his many friends. He traveled extensively worldwide with his wife soaking up the culture and enjoying the varied foods. Later on in his life, Jack explored his artistic side and many are fortunate to have a piece of his decoratively painted household items and furniture in their homes. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Jack and his wife moved to Nellysford where he spent much time playing on the many golf courses in the area and working in his garden. The consummate "fix-it" man, he could build, repair or refurbish almost anything. Known as "Pops" to his grandchildren, he loved them dearly, spending hours in his workshop fashioning wooden guns, swords and pinewood derby boxcars with them all. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Madelon Klinger Breckinridge; his daughter, Katherine Breckinridge Graham of Princeton, New Jersey, and son-in-law, Ford Graham; his daughter, Elizabeth Breckinridge Haines of Laguna Beach, California, and son-in-law, David Haines; and youngest daughter, Bonny Breckinridge DiNovo of Pearland, Texas, and son-in-law Anthony DiNovo; and six grandchildren, Kyle Marshall Haines, James Jackson McCardell Graham, Andrew Augustine DiNovo, Clayton Breckinridge Haines, Abigail Piper McConnico Graham and Adele Breckinridge DiNovo. A service for Jack Breckinridge will be conducted on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 344 Maple Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wintergreen Fire and Rescue, Post Office Box 711, Nellysford, Virginia, 22958. McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be shared at www.mcdowfuneralhomeinc.com.

Not sure what to say?

Jack, will miss you. You were always larger than life!

A good man, great fellow student, a positive infulence on my life and the lives of many of our fellow students

I am sorry to learn of the passing of Jack. He was a classmate of mine at Loyola School of Dentistry in New Orleans. Condolences to the family

Sincere sympathy.

We knew Jack only from being with him and Madelon on Regent cruises, but we treasured his friendship. He was truly larger than life. We are stunned by the news of his untimely passing. He will be missed.

June and Art Smith, Hilton Head Island, SC

We will miss Jack's annual pre-Mardi Gras visits, and celebrate a life well lived. The beautiful smiles on our children's faces are a testament to his talents. We will cherish these memories forever.
May God bless Madelon, Katherine, Beth, Bonny and their families at this time of sorrow.

From our studies together at NOA, to our competition on the golf corse, all the way through our sharing beads and trinkets with the kids on the. Balcony during Endymion only weeks ago, Jack's smile always made me feel warm and close to him. Rest well my friend.

My sympathy to the family. I was a patient of Dr. Breckinridge for many years. I will always remember how friendly (and talkative) he was. Much of my visit was spent listening to interesting stories.

Jack was a terrific person. He loved his family and his community and always offered to help others. The last few emails that I have from Jack were dedicated to health issues and to, one of our favorite areas of discourse, politics. I shall miss him a lot and hope that the faith of his wife Madelone and his daughters helps to comfort them during this terrible and mournful time.
