Not sure what to say?

Learned more about life in Mr Bridges swim class in 83 than I did from any other source at SHS.

Glennett and Family,
John Carroll was a great friend and mentor over many years. He was an outstanding Christian man. Our thoughts and prayers, in Christ, are with you all during this time. Rejoice indeed!!

My deepest sympathies and condolences to surviving family and countless friends. I personally have many fond memories of “ Mr. Bridges” as I always referred to him as. Going back to the mid 1960’s at the old Shelby Junior High School. The Shelby City Schools had just begun the process of integration back in those days.Mr. Bridges was one of the teachers and volunteer coaches . I recall him being extremely positive & energetic with ALL of my classmates. Frankly, I enjoyed being around him ....

Mr. Bridges was a true gentleman! I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years. He ALWAYS made me smile, each and every time I ever saw him! Mr. Bridges would always bring Susie and I a rose on the first day of school every year. I think about him and his generous spirit every school year on the first day of school. We are all better for having had Mr. Bridges in our lives, whether he was your teacher, counselor or your friend his intellect and his dynamic personality made you better....

I had Mr. Bridges in the 8th grade. He was the kind of teacher that the word needs today, When you was in his class you was going to pay attention to what he was trying to teach. And if you laid your head down he would get your attention with what ever he had in his hand. With the parents that I had and Teacher like Mr. Bridge made me be the man that I am today. My Prayers go out to the family

So sorry for your loss. Alzheimer’s took my dad away from his family. It is a terrible disease. I will be praying for you all.

John was one of my teachers when I was in Junior High School in the Shelby City Schools... I really enjoed having
him as a teacher! Learned quite a bit too. We saw one another ever so often at Church...he was always glad to see me!

I had Mr. Bridges in the 8th Grade. He was a great teacher, man & Role Model- spent many days at the City Park Pool where he was very friendly & fun to be around. Prayers for the Family-

While Mr Bridges was teaching at Shelby Junior High I had the pleasure of being a student in his physical education class during the 1965-66 school year which was the first year of segregation in Shelby City schools. Mr Bridges always treated everyone fairly and with respect. He had a commanding voice which resonated up and down the hallways, across the gym, outside on ballfield or wherever he happened to be. He had a unique way of connecting with his students. In fact, he was playing flag...
