John Gerald Brosnan, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025 after a brief illness.

Until his end he maintained his kindness, great humor, compassion and gratitude for his long life and loving family.

Born November 3, 1941, in Paterson, New Jersey, John was raised in Hawthorne, NJ and returned to Paterson to raise his own family. He was very proud of his 31 year career with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1992 as the Tour Superintendent of the Paterson Post Office.

He is survived by his adoring children John Michael (Theresa), Michael Patrick (Janet), Lisa Anne, and their mother Joyce Brosnan. Also by his grandchildren Michael, Stephanie (Pete), Patrick (Amanda) and Meaghan (Dylan), and his great grandchildren Rocco, Noah, Raegan, Grace, and another one on the way. He is also survived by his six brothers and sisters Maureen (Tom), Nancy, Steve (Linn), Sharon, Gail (John) and Paul (Jeannine).

John loved God, Red Sox baseball, Notre Dame football, Christmas, and Tessie his cat, but most of all he loved his children and extended family.

A private cremation was held on November 28, 2025, and a memorial mass at his childhood church will be held with a repast in early January 2026.

My condolences to the Brosnan family. I’ve known John since I was a baby, John and my dad (Pat Barney) were really good friends..I remember him coming to our house to play poker as a kid. Then he was my boss , tough guy, but fair. He knew what he was doing. May you RIP John

My big brother, how I love you. I will forever cherish the memories. Thank you for being you.

Uncle "Big" Johnny was the true patriarch of the family. I remember he was always the one handing out the Christmas gifts at Great Grama's house each year. His passion for the Red Sox rubbed off on "most" of the family. I will always love you "Big" Johnny. Rest Easy.

My heart is with you and your family during this difficult time. Your father's love and kindness lives forever in all that he touched.
