Age 80
John Brown Jr., 80, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Betty Ann (Turmel) Brown. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Lillian (Carline) Brown Sr.
John graduated from Pawtucket West High School and Salve Regina University. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran. He was a police officer for the Pawtucket Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He then worked as a police dispatcher for the Cumberland Police Department. He was a member of the Pawtucket Fraternal Order of Police and the Pawtucket Police Association.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Dawn Shippey and her husband Robert; and John Brown III (Pawtucket P.D.) and his wife Kathleen (Kinch) Brown; two grandchildren, John Brown IV, and Christopher H. Brown and his companion Heather Hermanowski; three sisters, Lillian Donovan, Carol Santos, and Edna Betty, and one brother, Robert Brown (Pawtucket P.D., Ret.).
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saint Mary’s Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket. The family will receive guests from 10am-10:50am in the church prior to the Mass. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Costigan-O’Neill Funeral Home.
