John A. Butts, 70 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Starkville Manor in Starkville, MS.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 5 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Phil Jones and Pastor Stephen Joiner officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Butts was born April 4, 1939 in Meridian, MS to the late Mertis P. and Aberdeen Mc Craw Butts and was a resident of Columbus, MS for more than 35 years. He was previously employed with Omnova in their maintenance department with 35 years of service and was an auxiliary police officer during the 1970’s. Mr. Butts was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Columbus, MS. He is preceded in death by his grandson – Jeremy Butts.

Mr. Butts is survived by his wife, Mary K. Butts, Columbus, MS; sons – John A. Butts, Jr. of Canada; Artis Ray Butts of Tennessee ; sisters – Dena Childress, Monetee, MO.; Lucille May, Meridian, MS; Inez Oswalt, Indianola, MS and one granddaughter – Allyssa Butts.

Pallbearers are Billy Carroll, Phil Sprayberry, Lonnie Clardy, Billy Gann, Johnny Frye and Chris Clardy. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Omnova’s Maintenance Department, Columbus, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 2722 Ridge Rd., Columbus, MS 39705.
