Not sure what to say?

I have not come up with adequate words to express the depth of my sorrow at your family's loss; the loss to Decatur and the deep sense of personal loss I feel.

Mr. Caddell has been a link to my family since my great-grandmother and he were friends. He served as the inspiration for so many of the history stories and research I undertook through the years. Indeed, one of the last letters he wrote was on my behalf to serve the county as archivist. To know that he trusted me with that...

Mr. Caddell was an inspiration to many....I saw him at Bama games this past season a couple of times...He was a special BAMA fan and a wonderful person....I send my sympathy to the family, but know that they have wonderful memories of their special dad and granddad...

May you find comfort in the joy, laughter, and memories that Johnny and Lucy brought to so many people and the special friendships shared throughout the years.
Love, Shirley (Bragg) Donnelly

To All the Family, and his great extended family, my condolence for the loss of a man who exemplified the best ANY community could ask for: dedication, hard work, compassion, loyalty, and a sense of humor. John Caddell is the standard bearer for so many to follow. May his legacy not be forgotten. Peace to all who knew and loved him. I will always remember him fondly, and I am grateful to have known him and his family. Love, Marti (McNelly)

Please know you all are in our prayers. We were honored to know your dad. What a wonderful legacy he leaves.

One thing we knew of John Caddell was his integrity which is a rare thing to find in people these days. He truly loved his dear wife and cared for her until the end of her life. It is a comfort to know they are together and neither are in pain any longer. Decatur has lost a great citizen and he is greatly missed.

John Caddell was truely an inspiration! All my Mother (Sara Johnson McNelly) can say is how good he was to her and my Dad (James Ewell Johnson - deceased) from the moment they moved to Decatur (in 1957). Mother was unable to attend the funeral but just couldn't stop talking about how he'd helped them SO SO much. To me it was SO amazing how clear his mind was and the amazing work he performed his whole life. Such an intelligent and compassionate man. He lived a full life and will surely be...

I only spoke with John via email a few times, yet it was clear that he was a gentleman. Pi Kappa Alpha has lost a great man. Rest in peace dear brother.

Decatur will not likely see a man of his stature again. Truth, justice, kindness, and wisdom graced this giant of a man. At last he is at peace and is with his wife and his God.
