John was the best man at our wedding in January 27, 1968. I lost touch with him several years later. My wife, Aleta, and I have learned of his death when we were trying to make contact again to send him and his wife an invitation to our 50th wedding anniversary this coming January 27, 2018. Sorry I was six months too late to make contact. Aleta and I will always remember him fondly.

Every time Uncle John arrived at our house when I was growing up, it was like a ray of sunshine coming through the door. He was larger than life with his laughing eyes and big grin. His outlook on life was expansive, bright and loving. Uncle John made everyone he met feel special and important. His star will never fade in my eyes. Love and comfort to Emily, David, Nathan, friends and family on this special day.

LEAVETAKING - for John
Softly, slowly
he gathered our remembered sins,
embracing recall with the beginning of tears,
heartbreak chosen as an act of love
Hearing my brother say Goodbye
I'm reminded of the passing of slow winds,
Heaven's cool whisper gone on a soft breeze
while I, left in an unfamiliar wilderness,
search for remnants of our plundered past
and contemplate the cost of innocence

Dear John,
Goodbye is the most difficult word to say, the hardest to hear. The good news is, it was created as a blessing for departure on a journey, not as the closing of a door. You have gone on ahead of the rest of us, but sooner or later we will catch up with you! :>) Meanwhile, your presence in our lives remains always a blessing. You were the most amazing brother and companion. Namaste! Love you! Cynthia

John and Emily welcomed me into their home during my high school years. John was someone who constantly challenged me to think beyond my privilege. He brimmed with laughter and honesty. Love and peace to John and his family.

I had the pleasure of working with John at TriMet. I used to relieve him when I was first hired; got meet Emily as well. They both opened their home to me on holidays. He would tell me the best stories about the "old days" at TM. He was a very special guy to me. Hugs to Emily and the boys.

I remember John best when he was a teen and lived with us for a few years. He was my first crush! He taught me art and the piano. I adored my Cousin/brother. I remember his first car that he painted with a brush ( old and black in color) and I was embarrased to be seen riding in it when he took me to school. John was a people person with simple needs. I loved him and am sad for myself, but joyous that he is now in God's house and no longer burdened with his earthly body. My heartfelt prayers to John's wife and children as well as sisters, nieces, nephews and various cousins. Blessings be us as we praise God's Grace. I remember when John and Emily first met. They were inseparable shortly after they met on John's Tri-Met bus that he drove daily and that Emily rode, and they then created a wonderful partnership, home, and family. John will continue to watch over his family in angel form, as the great husband, father, and friend we all knew him to be. Blessings to Emily, David, and Nathan.

I will always remember John for his true kindness to me. Two of my daughter's have battled with serious chronic illnesses. When they were very young both had many hospitalizations. John knew that I could never sleep, so he would call, have me place the phone by my ear, and he would play his piano until I fell asleep. Such a wonderful friend. Never forgotten. Bless his family always.

John was missed when he retired from Trimet. A true legend in his own time. So sorry to hear of your health trials in the last few years. May you all be at peace and know that John has returned home and is sending his love to you. Watch for the little things and know. Love never dies, it is eternal. Hugs to you all.
