I'm very sorry to hear of Dr. Canney's passing. I was with him in Coq Chante, Haiti in March of 2001; he was an inspiration to me. On a lighter note; he and I were sitting next to each other during Easter Sunday Mass in Haiti. Father Domo, who ran the compound we stayed in, began yelling (in his native language of Creole) at the parishioners while pounding his fist on the pulpit. John leaned over to me and whispered "I don't understand a single word he's saying, but whatever he's yelling...
