John Carlisle Obituary

Carlisle
John King Carlisle, 77, passed away July 2, 2020, after an extended illness. He was born in Birmingham, AL on February 17, 1943 to Johnnie K. Horton and Edgar F. Carlisle.
John moved to Jacksonville after serving in the US Army Reserves. He went to work for Sears and retired from there after 43 years. John was a loyal, hardworking employee who made many life-long friends who considered themselves a Sears family.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, avid hunter and fisherman. He was a die-hard Alabama football fan. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Shediac Carlisle, of almost 50 years; his daughter Kimberly Shore; son John Carlisle (Amy); grandchildren Caroline, Christian, Catherine, Violet , and Scarlett; brother Fred Carlisle; sister Cynthia Starkey (Dane); sisters-in-law Becky Romig and Susan Ryan (Mike); nephews, nieces, and many wonderful friends.
John's greatest joy was his family. He loved all of them, and he will be forever in their hearts.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Reverend Bill Hoff will be officiating. A private burial with family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to a charity of choice.

John was my manager when I first went to work at Sears, Regency. He was a funny guy who liked to make people smile. He believed in me and even supported my decision when I moved on from that job. One fond memory I have is the way his face would light up when I went in the store with my son when he was little. He loved giving him lollipops and sometimes would just load his pockets with candy and look at me with that smile. John was a good man. My prayers and condolences go out to his family. He will always be remembered.

John has been my brother-in-law for 45yrs. Not once did we ever have an argument or misunderstanding. John and Grace have felt more like my brother and sister by always being there for Susie and me. God please take him in your arms and in your heart.

John was a man of great character. Over the span of decades, we made many memories hunting, fishing, camping, and cooking together. Even though many years have passed since I last saw him, I will always cherish the time we spent together. I pray that God will grant peace and comfort to you and your family in this time of sorrow.
