John J. Ceceri. Sr. age 86 of Point Pleasant Beach, formerly of Newark, died on Friday March 8, 2019 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township. John was born in Newark and lived his whole life there until moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach in 2017 where he lived with his daughter, son-in-law and grandson until his death. John retired as the Regional Supervisor for Cascade Linen Supply Co. in Newark where he worked for over 35 years. After his retirement, John worked for Palisades Medical Center in the Medical Records Dept. for 5 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War serving in Germany as a Medic. He was a member of the American Legion in Newark then Nutley for many years. He was a former coach and then president of North Newark Baseball League. He was past president of the Italian American club at The Atria Senior Living in Tinton Falls. John was also an active member of the North Ward Education and Cultural Center in Newark during the 1970s and 1980s.
John loved Jeopardy and doing the daily Star Ledger crossword puzzles with his family, which he did until just before his passing. He had a great sense of humor and found something in common with everyone he met. He was respected and loved by all and will be truly missed.
John was pre-deceased by his wife Mildred Petolino Ceceri in 2017. They were married for 62 years. Surviving are his 4 children: Mary Faith Nugiel and her husband Martin of Point Pleasant Beach, Michael J. and his wife Kay Anne of Kennilworth, John J. Jr. and his wife Kathy of Schlyerville, NY, and Robert J. and his wife Lana Selman of Hillsboro. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren. Bobby Radcliffe, Alec Radcliffe, Danielle Ceceri, Michael Ceceri Jr. , John J. Ceceri III and Anthony G. Ceceri as well as loving nieces and nephews.
Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 3 to 7:00pm with a religious service at 7:00 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick, NJ. Cremation and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to John’s GoFundMe page for the American Legion at https://www.gofundme.com/manage/in-memory-of-john-ceceri-sr.
