John William Champlin, 90, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Woodland Terrace of Citrus County in Hernando. A native of Jamestown, R.I., he was born March 30, 1923, to Paul and Elizabeth (Swinburne) Champlin, one of two children. John was one of the most knowledgeable people I ever met. He could fix just about anything, very inventive, and an amazing boat builder ( he actully built one in his garage and it was the smoothest riding boat I have ever been on).
He had a very dry sense of humor, and even though he had multiple copyrights for his inventions, he remained a very humble man. John was sincerely one of the nicest people I had the honor of calling friend. He will be missed.
