Not sure what to say?

Mr. Checkis was a great soul. He must have liked me because he let me drive his old Dodge pickup and even took his daughter to the prom. I will always remember the Art club trip to Spokane for the world's fair. We stayed in a youth Hostel and there were some drunk guys hassling the girls in our group. When Mr. C got there in the morning he showed us how to tie a rope from across the hall so when the drunk guys got up they couldn't get to the restroom. We all laughed about that for years. He...

John, Bill, "Mr. C", Dad, Grandpa John. You were an inspiration to so many. We love you with all our hearts.

When I was young, I spent a great deal of time at the Checkis home. His son, Mike and I were friends then. I want to let his family know that alot of who I am today was because of your father. His values, ethics, morals, humor and life were what I strive to be. Even though I have not seen him in years, I thought about him often. My condolances to Mrs. Checkis, Mike, and family.

I had you for art Mr. C at Clackamas High in the late 60's. You were just a joyful person to be around and helped my see things in a different light. I could not wait to get to your class. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Condolences to your family and friends.

He was a great influence in my life during my high school years in Milwaukie. He allowed so much creativity and joy in his class room. I still 38 years later have some of the art that I made way back when His stories of his past and his family were always full of expression. What a truly wonderful memory of my past.

Remembering you fondness Mr. C. From art club to art class you were the best. Many memory's of high school. Thanks ! Rest in peace!

Mr. Checkis, fondly as "Mr C", was my art teacher at Milwaukie High in the 70s. I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. With a great sense of humor, he was always very supportive of his students. I had an awesome time in Art Club and I cherish those memories. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Checkis' family.

I was a clerk at the St Johns library from 1991-98. Mr Checkis was one of my favorite patrons. He was an absolute joy. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Kugler

I have fond memories of John and Ruth in the "Mariners" group, and think of them often. John had a great sense of humor and was a kind, gentle, thoughtful, fun person. He will be missed by many. My best to Ruth.
