John Childs

CHILDS, JOHN EVERETT John Everett Childs, 84, beloved husband of Wanda (Poborca) Childs, passed away peacefully at his home in Rocky Hill on September 28, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Jack, as he was known by family and friends, was born on March 21, 1929 in South Portland, Maine, the son of the late Leon and Leah (McBrady) Childs. He was a corporal in the US Army stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Korean War. A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Jack worked for Northeast Utilities in Middletown for 32 years. He was active in Dutch Point Credit Union since its founding, and was a well-respected member of the board of directors for over 40 years. He lived in Hartford for a number of years prior to moving to Wethersfield in 1963, and to Rocky Hill in 2004. A communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield for 50 years, he was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Newington Council 3884. In addition to his loving wife of 51 years, he is survived by his son Edward J. Childs of Boston, Massachusetts, his daughter Sharon (Childs) Telford and her husband William H. Telford III of Madison, and his cherished grandchildren Barrett W. Telford, Megan M. Telford, and Colin J. Telford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 1st, at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. (Everyone is asked to go directly to the church). Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
