Mr. John L. Cox, Jr., 80, of Winterville, Georgia died Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Health Center of Lake City following a lengthy illness. Mr. Cox was born on March 8, 1922 in Cordele, GA to the late John L. and Lillie Mae McLane Cox. He was a graduate of the Crisp County High School and an honor graduate of the University of Georgia. He retired from the University of Georgia with a career serving as an English Professor, Director of Student Activities and the staff of Career Planning and Placement. Mr. Cox was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cordele, GA.

Mr. Cox is survived by his sister, Mary Cox Middlebrooks of Panacea, FL; one niece, Carol Middlebrooks Miller (Tommy) of Lake City; one nephew, Steve H. Middlebrooks (Susan) of Athens, Georgia; three great-nephews and one great-niece, Chad Middlebrooks (Jessica) of Athens, Georgia, Wesley Middlebrooks (Courtney) of Athens, GA, Wil Miller of Valdosta, GA, and Jennifer Stringer (Dennis) of Orlando, FL also survive.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Gateway Center Blvd., Lake City, FL 32024. I worked with John from 1968 to 1983 at the Career Planning and Placement Office at UGA. He was a wonderful person and I enjoyed knowing him very much.

I worked with Mr. Cox from August 1967 thru December 1972, at which time I married and left Georgia. He was a wonderful individual and I enjoyed knowing him. I'm so sorry to hear of his death
