CROSS, Dr. John "Wayne" - Of Swartz Creek, age 83, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Todd Meece officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may make contributions to Court Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or North Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation 1-7PM Monday at the funeral home. Wayne was born in Flint, Michigan on January 21, 1925, the son of John and Grace Cross and was a resident of Swartz Creek for the last 23 years and had divided residency between Ellenton, Florida, Sand Lake and Swartz Creek. He was in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II as a Tail Gunner. He married Mayme Welker in 1943 and she preceded him in death in 1982. He was a member of North Baptist Church. On January 4, 1986 he married Betty Peters. Wayne enjoyed motorcycles, fixing things, helping others and playing golf. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He graduated from the Cleveland School of Podiatry and was a Podiatrist in the Flint area for over 30 years. Dr. Cross was a Podiatrist in downtown Flint until retirement. Surviving are wife, Betty (Peters) Cross; children, Gary and Nikki Cross, Janet and Darrell Feist; step-children, Jim and Lynn Peters, Bonnie and Jim Walker; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifford Cross and Robert and wife Judy Cross; many nieces and nephews. Wayne leaves many treasured friends. Thank you to Dr. Latchana and Dr. Kia; the many nurses and staff at McLaren Regional Medical Center. "Doc" will be truly missed by his Ellenton Gardens "family". I grew up admiring Doc Cross, always friendly, I can't visualize him without a smile. A great neighbor and friend. He lived a wonderful life and had touch many lives with his friendly personality. He will be missed, but just mentioning his name will bring on a warm smile.
