Not sure what to say?

John Crowell was a fine geologist who taught us much about major strike-slip systems and global glaciation. He was, in addition, a terribly nice fellow. I miss him. Our society, regrettably, no longer produces the sort of generalist that John was.

A loss can be so hard. So sorry for your loss.

I am so very sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort give you the peace that surpasses all thought during this difficult time. (Philippians 4:6,7)

He will be sorely missed at structure and tectonics meetings.

Rest in Peace

A quick wit and an understated sense of humor. Dr Crowell was always ready to consider any idea, provide direction and advice and give an interesting perspective. As an amateur meteorologist, i recall great discussions with him on the origin of the santa Barbara Sea breeze phenomenon. This usually lead to discussions of D Day weather prediction. What a scholar! We will miss him!!!!

Professor Crowell provided guidance throughout my graduate studies and supported my exploration of remote sensing methods in their early days. In short, he helped lead me to an enjoyable and rewarding career. I will be forever grateful. His life, well lived, is an inspiration. Goodbye John.
