Not sure what to say?

My years working with John hold a special place in my heart. I am so sorry to learn of his passing.John gave New Jerseyians, young and old, an identity to be proud of. Lucky for us that his words will live on. My condolences to John's family. He so dearly loved you.

So very sorry to read this. John was related to my mom through marriage. Dorothy and my mom were cousins and graduated from Madison High together, I believe in 1934. He was such a tremendous historian/writer and I have several of his books. I moved from Florham Park to MI in 1968 and am involved with local history organizations here.

John was NJ's official historian. As an alumnus of Morristown High School, I was particularly pleased with his wonderful compendium of that institution which he penned 10 or so years ago.

On a more personal note, I came to meet him thru his longtime friend and fellow Drew alumnus, Ralph Porzio, who was the founding partner of the law firm where I practiced for many years.

He and Ralph shared a love of history and of practical jokes. They were constant companions until...

Condolences to the Cunningham Family. I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your dear loved one John.  May the God of all comfort be with you through this difficult time.  The Bible assures us that if you draw close to God he will draw close to you. (James 4:8)

My friend and mentor, John T. Cunningham, "Mr. New Jersey," will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who love New Jersey. Our state has lost a treasure!

When I was in grade school Mr. Cunningham came to our school to talk about one of his books...was the first "famous" person I met...RIP

John was a great patriot and historian! He will be greatly missed by all who are interested in history!

It was a privilege to work on the staff of the New Jersey Bicentennial Celebration Commission on which John Cunningham was a member nearly forty years ago. No one was a more enthusiastic and knowledgable advocate of New Jersey history than John. He will be missed tremendously, but has left us a legacy in the form of his many books and articles. Blessings to his family.

I only "knew" John through his books & the MHS video, but those things made me look up to him & respect him for all he gave our wonderful state and school.

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. He will be missed!
