Dr. John D. Talley, Jr., of Pelham, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 15, 2018, at the age of 77. Dr. Talley was a decorated Army Chaplain, having been awarded, among others, the Silver Star, the Soldier's Medal, and the Bronze Star. One year of his service was in Vietnam. He also served the Lord as a pastor; college professor at Appalachian Bible College, Southeastern Bible College, and Washington Bible College; and President of Southeastern Bible College.
He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy, and his great grandson, Merritt. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dr. Bette Talley; 3 sons, Dr. John D. Talley III (Melody), Dr. David Talley (Joni), and Paul C. Talley, Sr. (Suzanne); 8 grandchildren, Timothy Talley (Whitney), Tiffany Talley, Amanda Talley, Andrew Talley (Hannah), PJ Talley (Katie), Benjamin Talley (Lindsay), Caleb Talley (Mandy), and Elizabeth Talley; 3 great grandchildren, Lainey, Tyde, and Colton Talley; and a brother, Richard Talley (Mary).
The family will receive friends from 10-12:30, Monday, January 22, 2018, at Southeastern Bible College, 2545 Valleydale Road in Birmingham 35244. Funeral will follow at 12:30, Pastor Chris Lamb officiating. Interment will be in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
In lieu of flowers, family is requesting that donations be made to Christian Marriages in Crisis and Glenn Iris Baptist Church.
