John Dalton

John Dalton, 81, of Greeley, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center. John was born December 10, 1928 in New Boston, Ohio to John Willys Pigg and Eddith Nettie Dalton. John enlisted in the Air Force in 1946 and was honorably discharged at FE Warren AFB in 1949. While he was stationed at FE Warren, he met Jeanette Hollister. John and Jeanette married in July of 1949 in Greeley. John went to work for the Hollister family in 1951 at Greeley Monument Works, which recently celebrated a 100 year anniversary. John bought the family business in 1979 and worked until his retirement in 1993. John was always involved in promotion of the memorial industry. In keeping with family tradition, John's daughter Debbie and son-in-law Michael now own Greeley Monument Works. John continued to pay a daily visit and assist Debbie and Michael until his death. John took up scuba diving in 1988 and spent many vacations with Jeanette on Grand Cayman. He was very proud of his many personal accomplishments with cars, motorcycles and planes. He was an accomplished builder of model airplanes. John was a lifetime member of Greeley Elks Lodge #0809 and various flying clubs. His favorite pastime in recent years was the time he spent talking with his many friends and driving his cars. At home, he enjoyed watching the Speed channel. Survivors include his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Michael, his brother Norman Dale and wife Virginia of Redford, Michigan. John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette and his in-laws Ralph and Frances Hollister.
