JOHN DANCY

Bud was my cousin, my mother being his father's sister, but we could never quite become close at such a long distance. I just leaned of his passing. I met Mr. Dancy by chance at the mid-term Democratic Convention in Memphis Tennessee during the Carter Presidency. I had credentials and was employed within the criminal justice system in Memphis and was taking photos at the convention. I was upstairs and walked by the area that he was about to give a live update when one of the light stands collapsed. I offered to hold the light manually and did so with the producer's OK. So sorry to hear about Bud, didn't know he or Ann had died. We were young reporters together in Jackson. I was at the Sun and I'm pretty sure he was with WTJS. We were both newly married and lived in the same building, he and Ann downstairs and my wife and I upstairs and of course socialized a lot so knew each other well. God rest their souls.

I knew John and Ann in Chicago in the '70s. My wife and I babysat for their children while they were on vacation. He was a fine man. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

John was my mentor and teacher while a student at Duke. He was a wonderful teacher who guided me for over a decade in my journalism career. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. I have such fond memories of his help and mentor ship, as well as his friendship and hospitality.
