John B. DAVENPORT

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since John Davenport's death. John (Or "Jibby," his childhood nickname) and I were close friends growing up in Grand Forks, ND, where our parents were friends with his. We often got together for Thanksgiving dinners. John and I attended University of Denver together, both earning the M.A. in Librarianship there. As young adults, we both shared a love of classical music, especially that of Gustav Mahler's symphonies. John passed away too soon...

a good friend and a good scholar

John (or "Jib" as he was known--short for "J.B." his initials) and I were childhood friends in Grand Forks, and both attended the Graduate Library School at University of Denver in the 1970s, where we received our MAs. His and my parents were close friends, and thus we gathered together often especially during holidays and summers. We went our separate ways after Denver, and so I will always remember him as a boy and a young man, full of wit and a sardonic sense of humor. I was shocked to...

I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing. I always loved my conversations with him, hearing about his travels and talking with pride about St. Thomas. He will also be greatly missed at our summer block party.
