John R. Davis (71) passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 after a difficult year.
John was born in Elizabeth, NJ but moved to Union, NJ as a young child where he lived for 61 years before moving to Scotch Plains, NJ a few years ago. He was a proud graduate of Union High School and enjoyed attending their football games for decades after he graduated. He faithfully worked for Inroads to Opportunities (Occupational Center of Union County) for 48 years. He found purpose in his work there and made many lifelong friendships.
John is survived by his beloved niece Cynthia M. Souza and her husband Victor of Scotch Plains, NJ and nephew Major Edward T. Delnero, U.S. Army, Retired and his wife Karen of Yorktown, VA. He was a proud Great Uncle to Dominic Souza, Joseph Souza and Sofia Delnero. Also, left to mourn are his devoted caregivers Elda Ponce and Jennifer Lopez, as well as extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Viola Davis as well as, his sister Pamela Delnero (nee Davis) and her husband Edward Delnero. He had many pets but took the loss of his cat Tippy a year ago especially hard. Nearly two years ago, he suffered the devastating loss of his girlfriend of 18 years, Lorraine Marsh. He loved her very much and missed her dearly.
John was an avid sports fan. He followed Notre Dame football and was a long suffering fan of the Jets and Mets. He also enjoyed watching classic movies and his news programs. As a young man, he enjoyed family fishing trips down the shore on their boat. He loved going out to the movies, a play at the Paper Mill Playhouse and ordering two “sweet works” with french fries and a birch beer from the Galloping Hill Inn.
