John F. Donovan, Sr.,92 formerly of Troy, died Thursday January 12, 2006 at the Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Patrick and Rose Dean Donovan, and husband of the late Frances H. Connally of Troy, who died December 31, 1998. They were married 57 years.
Mr. Donovan was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, he then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Siena College in Loudonville, NY, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University in New York, NY. John worked for New York State for 39 years, retiring in 1975 as the Director of the Department of Taxation and Finance.
John was a devoted catholic and longtime communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Mr. Donovan was a member of the area Knights of Columbus and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his beloved children; a son, John F. Donovan, Jr. PhD.(Marilyn)of Columbia, MD, three daughters, Patricia Donovan Lada(Timothy)of Odenton, MD, Mary Donovan of Endicott, NY, and Suzanne Donovan McGuiness(Frank) of Woodcliff Lake, NJ. He was the cherished grandfather of Eric Lada U.S. Coast Guard, and Nathan Lada U.S. Army, both serving in the Middle East, Elizabeth, Karah, and Cathleen McGuiness, and Brian and Steven McCarthy.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, and at 9:00 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church, Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Home. Memorial donations to The Little Sisters of the Poor 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, New York, 12110 would be greatly appreciated.
