John Gass Dornberger

John was a good friend,he listened well, and always spoke w/the love of ECK in his heart to me. I'll always cherrish the many stars/words he gave me.

Julie, Zach and family, I knew John from the Central Family YMCA ever since he had worked there. He was always a loyal supporter of the annual Partner With Youth Campaign to help those kids who can not afford the programs to attend Camp Hanes and other activities. I used to do triathlons and marathons and John would work me over with a deep tissue massage after those events. It was a pleasure to converse with John since he was such a brilliant man with a wonderful repertoire of opinions...

Perhaps, the poet Walt Whitman siad it best, "Joy, shipmate, joy! (Pleased to my soul at death I cry), Our life is closed, our life begins, The long, long anchorage we leave, The ship is clear at last, she leaps! She swiftly courses from the shore, Joy, shipmate, joy!"

I loved the way John applied creativity to all aspects of his life. I had the joy of passing an afternoon with John last summer. As we were talking his eyes lit up, he smiled and called my attention to a spot where the sun broke through the trees and formed a giant Z on the ground. 2 of his star paintings fill my room with colorful energy and always make me smile. I feel so fortunate to have been touched by such a beautiful soul. with Gratitude

John always gave the gift of his presence but he went beyond that in creating a special gift for so many of us. He asked what colors we liked then painted individual stars of divine love. This star was the beginning of a serious of events and dreams leading me to a greater realization of divine love. I am so grateful for this beautiful gift and for having known such a beautiful Soul.

It was always a blessing to be in John's presence. I enjoyed getting to know him at our various gatherings at the Eck Center. I'll miss his loving bear hugs!
