My belated condolences Mary...
I can't believe it!!! I'm just finding out about John today...We talked at the beginning of the baseball season and I was calling today at the end of the season...I was blessed with sitting next to John at Spring Training games for the Yankees (1983-1995) and Orioles (1996-2009) for over 25 years! You get to know a man over that period of time...
We loved our teams! John with his St. Louis Cardinals and me with the New York Yankees...Our discussions were always centered around baseball history and of course when the first discussion about politics would come up during the first game of spring training? 4th inning? 5th inning? We loved it!!
We were appropriately seated...John on the right and yours truly on the left...4th row behind the dugout on the first baseline...As good as it gets!!
Neither John or myself had a difficult time being heard at the stadium...We loved the game so much and it was always a pleasure seeing him at the ballpark...I used to kid John that he was the only guy I knew who actually saw Wee Willie Keeler who played from 1892 to 1910...Of course John's retort cannot be published here!
I will always love the man and I will miss our friendly banter...
John...I hope you're watching Stan Musial and Bob Gibson play against Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in your Field of Dreams today...Say Hi to Wee Willie Keeler for me and save me a seat for when I get there!!!

Mary, I am so sorry to read of John's passing. John and I shared many good times together, with cards, baseball games, and City involvement in Fort Lauderdale, and I will miss him greatly. Unfortunately I cannot make it to Tallahassee for the services, but my prayers will be with you. With all good thoughts and memories, Bruce Weihe
