John & I went to Ascension School in Oak Park together, 1951 babies. I really got to know John well 8th grade and freshman year. John and his brother Tom were my softball coaches in the Women's Advertising League for the first 5-6 years I played, back in the '80s. I remember thinking how strange to play with a 16" ball and no mitt. He was always patient with me running drills and teaching me how to field grounders and fly balls bare-handed.
