John M. "Jack" Duff, U.S. Army veteran WWII, beloved husband of Catherine, nee Frankel; devoted father of John (Patricia), Kathleen, Thomas (Pam), James (Wendy), Anne (Robert) Dorneker, Margaret (William) Walsh, Mary (James) Arey, Patricia (Robert) Marino, Robert and the late Susan (the late John) Sbarbaro; loving grandfather of 19; brother of the late Matthew (the late Rita) Duff; brother-in-law of Margaret (the late Charles) May, Robert (Dorothy), William (Anita), Lawrence (Mary), Howard Frankel and Loretta Marren; uncle and grand-uncle of many. 52 year member of Ascension Parish, Oak Park. Past commander and longtime adjutant of the former Clarke-O'Reilly Legion Post 866 and present member of Charles Roth Post #692. 40 year court reporter with the state of Illinois. Memorials may be made to Ascension St. Vincent DePaul Society, 808 S. East Ave., Oak Park, 60304. Visitation Friday, Feb. 23, 3 to 9 p.m., at Peterson Funeral Home, 6938 W. North Ave. (3 blocks east of Harlem), Chicago. Family and friends will meet Saturday, at Ascension Church, East Ave. and VanBuren St., Oak Park, for Mass at 12:30 p.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The Duff Family – In 1981, I was a newly licensed Attorney, just starting to practice at what was then called the Industrial Commission. So my career overlapped Mr. Duff’s for a few years. He reported many of my early trials. He was always a gentleman, and he amazed me how he could take down every word at a trial with just a steno pad and his fountain pen. I didn’t believe it at first. But when you got your transcripts back, they were always letter perfect.

Hi Duff Family,
Just wanted to send my condolences on the passing of your Dad/Husband. I have many memories of him sitting on the front porch reading the paper, but the most memorable was of him walking home after work in his suit, carrying his briefcase down Jackson Blvd. and knowing that it was almost time for dinner (you could set your watch to it).
