JOHN E. ABLES, age 57, of Portage, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at VNA Hospice. He was born on December 18, 1956 to Homer and Nadine Ables. John was a lifetime area resident and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patty (nee Zmierski); son, Arthur Ables of Portage; daughter, Erin (Joshua) Ables of Bloomington, IN; parents, Homer and Nadine Ables of Lake Station; grandchildren, Ethan, Avery and Xander; brother, Tom (Michelle) Ables of Lake Station; brothers-in-law, Jim, Mike and Tom Zmierski; other loving family.

A funeral service for John will be Tuesday, December 2, 2014 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, and going in procession to St. Francis Xavier, 2447 Putnam, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. David Kime officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
