Attention to Detail

When Bruce Eagleson would say he would make dinner, his sons — they're 15, 19 and 22 now — would groan and say, "Now we'll never eat — it'll take hours!" It was probably worth the wait, though, because Mr. Eagleson was a perfectionist — whether at home or at work, he had to get every detail just right.

Do not think he lacked a sense of humor, though. On the contrary, he was famous for his practical jokes — with telephone impersonation being a pet trick — said his wife, Gail. If, say, he overheard his sister-in-law mention a person causing her trouble in some union negotiation, he would call and pretend to be that person, just to mix things up a bit.

Mr. Eagleson, 53, hoped to retire within seven years. He loved golfing and fishing in New Hampshire, and hoped to spend more time there.

A vice president at the Westfield Group, of Los Angeles, Mr. Eagleson, who lived in Connecticut, was at a meeting on the 17th floor of 2 World Trade Center discussing Westfield's plans to run the trade center's retail operations. His oldest son called him after the first plane hit and urged him to leave. Mr. Eagleson said he was evacuating people, but promised to get out.

May his memory be a blessing to his loved ones

Along with 9/11 Families, John's son Bruce is doing incredible work to ensure that justice is served for every American. I know those who were lost that day would beam with pride knowing that their families and other citizens refuse to let their lives be in vain. The pursuit of truth is always worth it.

I was again proud to read the name Bruce Eagleson at our 9/11 hero ceremony here in The Villages, Florida. We read the names of all the heroes of that day and I read a few names of firefighters and include Bruce’s name. Many years I have remembered him at this ceremony and I will continue to do this. Heck of a guy!!!

Thinking of Mr. Eagleson’s family and friends and remembering him and his selflessness 20 years ago

Here we are 20 years later and will never forget Bruce. I admired, respected and appreciated his integrity then and even more so now. A true hero and role model and happy I had a chance to know him. God bless you Bruce.

Always remembered.

Remembering John on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

To Bruce Eaglesons sons and wife Gail,

My name is Bob Shea. Bruce and I along with Paul Alfano were roommates for about 1 year when we attended Central CT State College. Our apartment was in New Britain right next to a great Italian restaurant called Teresa's which we often frequented. It has only been in the past year or so that I found out what happened to Bruce, so I wanted to reach out to say how sorry I am and to tell you what a great guy Bruce was, which I know you are very...
