Not sure what to say?

I still miss John. Fire Island isn´t the same without him. I remember bringing him skincare supplies and a book of James Tate´s poems when he was stranded in the hospital unexpectedly. I remember hearing him build up young professionals and artists (myself included). I remember going to a White Party with Machine Dazzle and John being the best host. I gave John one of my photographs of Machine and knew it was in good hands. He always made me laugh and smile. I will never forget you, John....

I knew John through an investment my firm made in his energy company, Copano. He was an impressive businessman: entrepreneurial, forward thinking, intelligent, competitive, financially disciplined & honest. That would be impressive enough, but what I admired most about John was that he was a good human-being. He was always kind and generous to a fault with his time, willing to explain the most simple energy concepts to someone who had little background in the midstream business. Not too...

I knew John when he started doing real estate development in NYC. He always had a wonderful smile and demeanor. I was shocked to hear of his passing and miss him as a long time friend in my early days in NYC Ted Wolf

I worked for John in the early 1980s with all the "Frio" ventures in Corpus Christi and Houston. Though there were many employees in the field, our office was like a small family, with young John at the helm. I was just a few years younger, and served as his Executive Assistant. John was brilliant. His enthusiasm and passion for business was contagious. I last saw him and John Sr. when Margaret and my mom were in the same hospital in Houston, about 11 years ago. My deepest sympathy to John,...

I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. We went to Columbia together and had just reconnected recently. I had been looking forward to seeing him again after many years and this is very hard news to receive, very hard indeed. I do miss him.

When I think of John, I recall his warmth, kindness, sense of humor, unlimited generosity, and strong work ethic. He truly appreciated the people in his daily life, such as his driver Freddie. As an artist, John offered his support and encouragement, and I will really miss him. I chose the poem Wait for Me by James Tate in remembrance of our friendship.

Mr. Eckel was a sweet man, he would always walked, lived and breathe with his blackberry it was so funny, i loved his spirit and smile. no matter what he was going through he wore a smile:)

I am a fraternity brother of JOhn's and was trying to contact him today to see if he would be attending our General Convention in Hartford this coming weeekend, so finding the news of his recent death has surprised and saddened me greatly. His friends at St. Anthony Hall will miss him sorely. A quality person has left us. Dr. Ronald A. P. Dwight, Providence, RI
