Not sure what to say?

Mr. Eckerson was a wonderful, kind man that both me and my husband knew since 1977. He was a mentor to me all through my high school years. I always felt comfortable talking to him if I had a problem, he always knew how to fix it. He was the rare teacher/principal who treated us kind, and yet when it came time for discipline he was firm and understanding at the same time-he always took time to find out what had happened. He didn't judge us, he understood us. He was a rare find, I wish my...

John Eckerson taught me more, my being a teacher at AHS, than I think I ever taught my students!
He taught me that being gentle, but firm is a trait worth pursuing. John helped me and my students to be better human beings.

My condolences, and those of my wife, Nancy to Helen and the family. John has truly gone to a better place!

Earth Science 1958 - 1959- Such great memories! I'll always remember the field trip Mr. Eckerson arranged for our class to tour the gypsum mines - head lamps and all!! He was one of ACS's finest. A true dedicated professional . He has left his footprint!

The era of this great man will not be easily forgotten. My sympathy to his family, friends, and loved ones. There are many.

Mr. Eckerson was the first teacher I ever had that noticed my potential as an interested learner....even I didn't realize it. He woke up my continuned interest in the natural world and the way the universe works. While other tecahers were stern, cold, uninterested and mean spirited, he was always there to help me learn, help engage me in the lesson, make learning fun and try to get me to carry my interest in learning over to my other classes. His energy will always live on and his naturally...

My deepest sympathies to Helen and the entire family. I was fortunate to have known John in retirement through the Buffalo Torch Club and learn of his love of music and motorcycles. I will always remember his kindness and good humor

May you rest in peace Mr. Eckerson. You were one of my favorite teachers in high school.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Mr. Eckerson has been a mentor to all teens that walked his halls. May he rest in peace knowing that he was a man who was fair and understanding.
