Not sure what to say?

Reflecting on my study & service, I found myself thinking of Msgr Egan. I was unable to attend the funeral because I was delivering Sara Lee bread on the southside of Chicago. Still, I pray for him and his work - which is a matter of historical record. That neighborhood produced a President of the United States. Isn't that a miracle?

God bless you, Jack ... and God bless Chicago!

Many Notre Dame Alumni (me, ND '83) still feel inspired by the theology & life of Jack...

Summer School in the '70's at Notre Dame University meant Jack Egan at the Catholic Conference on Urban Ministry. You helped to set the direction for my ministry in affordable housing. For all the people whose lives have been changed because of you, we remember you, we thank you.

Jack Egan was my friend for 30 years. He treated each person as the only one he wanted to be with at the moment. He's "working the room" in Heaven now. I will miss him.

You were my lifelong mentor, teacher, and friend. You were full of Irish magic. You inspired, delighted, and reconciled. We loved you. We knew you would always be there. You still are, always in our hearts. Goodbye, dear friend.

I met Jack through my work as a development person at Catholic Charities USA. Every Christmas, I received a call. It was like talking to God: how was my family, did I have a job, was I raising money for Catholic Charities! Jack was one of my heroes. He fought the good fight--and never, ever lost hope-or his sense of humor! And could he inspire others to do their best--and part with some money to help others! It's truly an honor to have known Jack.

In Memory of Msgr. Jack Egan:
Many years ago, as a young man, I met you and your witness served to challenge and to inspire. Through you I believed that ideals could be embodied;sacrifices for justice could be emboldened; faith in God's Providential Care could be realized. Thank you Jack for such a life full of courageous and imaginative witness so often humbly and humorously conveyed. Your inspirations and challenges will live on.

A man with great honor and commitment who devoted his life in touching the lives of many people. I am soo honored to have a scholarship name after you. I will always carry out your name as long as I live. Your a grandfather to me and it hurts that I lost but I know I will carry you in my heart always and in spirit. I bet your watching me right now and forever. I just wished that you could of seen me present my speech at the reception. I love you soo much. I know your in a better place. You...

Dear Monsignor Egan was a living prophet who truly was walking the walk not just talking the talk of so many people and he will be sorely missed. All of us should pick up the slack and carry on his mission through our example! It gives me some peace that he is with the Man he imitated and loved so much.... Many thoughts and prayers to all his close friends and family.
