ELMS, John Henry Jr., Chief Warrant Officer (Retired,) 75, a resident of Chesterfield for 23 years, died Friday, July 22, 2011. He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1954 to 1974, where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and retired after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Elms; daughter, Johnna Frances Grizzard of Chester, Va.; sons, John Gerald Elms of Richmond, Va., Paul Edwin Johnson of Henrico, Va., Robert Allen Johnson of Richmond, Va.; sister, Alice Thurman of Westminster, Md.; six grandchildren; nephew, Jeff Matzka Sr; and niece, Jeannine Shaw. A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to The Disabled American Veterans.
